A tour of Chiang Mai Old City’s historic sights on a Segway two-wheeler is an unparalleled experience. Offered by the same company to set up the first ziplining centre in Chiang Mai, Flight of the Gibbon’s Segway tours of the 700-year-old city quarter are a delight and provide memories to treasure.
Chiang Mai Segway Gibbon tours begin with a 15-minute introduction to safety and using the machines. This is followed by a one-hour ride which takes in the key tourism highlights in the area inside the medieval walls and moat. Two captains accompany each tour and ensure riders are able to cross roads safely if traffic starts to build up.
The tours start from the Flight of the Gibbon office on Kotchasarn Road near Thapae Gate. The route for the group tours is tweaked to suit expected travel conditions at specific times of the day. They generally stop at three sites from a list comprising The Three Kings’ Monument, Suan Buak Haad Park , Wat Phra Singh, Wat Chiang Man , Wat Pan Tao and Wat Chedi Luang.
Flight of the Gibbon offers online reservations services for Segway Gibbon tours. Tour participants have to arrive at the start point at least 15 minutes before their scheduled departure times. In addition to the standard Segway Gibbon tour, Flight of the Gibbon offers combo one and two day Segway and zipline package deals.
There is an upper weight limit of 113 kilograms for Segway riders. Various restrictions apply when riding and these include a ban on smoking or using mobile telephones. Before setting off, Segway Gibbon riders have to fill in a form with their basic personal information, details of any medical issues and saying they understand the rules pertaining to the use of the Segways. This is needed for insurance purposes.
