Chiang Mai is Thailand’s second city and the biggest in the northern regions of Thailand. It is home to several quality cinemas at which film fans can watch the latest releases from Hollywood, Bollywood, Thailand and other movie production locations in Asia. Chiang Mai cinemas show US and other English language movies with their original soundtracks and subtitles in Thai script, but some are dubbed into Thai. It is a good idea to check the soundtrack is in English when buying admission tickets.
Chiang Mai’s cinemas are mostly multi-screen complexes located at shopping malls. The movie theatres are equipped with comfortable seating and superior sound systems. Snacks and drinks are sold in the foyers of the cinemas. Our guide to the cinemas in Chiang Mai is below and gives details about location and the likelihood of seeing English films.

The mall is home to a state-of-the-art Major Cineplex multi-screen cinema at which the newest blockbuster movies are shown. An EN/TH designation on the film ad means the soundtrack is English.

Kad Suan Kaew is on Huay Kaew too and is the oldest mall in Chiang Mai. The Vista Cinema dates from when the mall was built in the early 1990s. The sound systems in the theatres at the Vista probably date from this time too and do not give quite the same clarity as the newer cinemas. A good proportion of the films screened here have Thai soundtracks only so it is a good idea to check before buying tickets.
