An exhibition at Chiang Mai’s MAIIAM Modern Art Museum will run through until next year, despite rumours it would be closing at the end of this month. The exhibition is themed on Diaspora: Exit, Exile, Exodus of Southeast Asia and showcases the creations of leading luminaries in the art field from Thailand and the surrounding region.
The collection of paintings and mixed media exhibits has a central theme on the shifting tides of populations since the Vietnam War and focuses on abandonment of homes and forced and self-proclaimed exile. Among the 18 artists represented are Bangkok based Prapat Jiwarangsan, Myanmar exile Sawangwongse Yawnghwe and Pao Houa Her from Laos. The MAIIAM webpage for the exhibition has short biographies for each of the contributors.
Diaspora: Exit, Exile, Exodus of Southeast Asia will close on the 3 March, 2019. MAIIAM opens from Wednesday to Monday and between 10:00 and 18:00. The facility is located in the eastern San Kamphaeng District of Chiang Mai and can be reached by songthaew or rented car or motorcycle.
