GrabTaxi to Introduce Electric Tuk-Tuk Option in Chiang Mai

At a recent press conference, GrabTaxi announced the forthcoming addition of electric tuk-tuks to ride hailing options in the Northern Thailand city of Chiang Mai. Nakorn Lanna Cooperative is set to buy a fleet of 450 of the eco-friendly, three-wheeler vehicles and has formed a partnership with Grab to offer customers exclusive access to online reservations.

A Nakorn Lanna representative explained that the new electric tuk-tuks would be arriving over the course of the next year and would be replacing the LPG version currently used in Chiang Mai. The representative noted that the electric tuk-tuks would be a win-win for both the environment and drivers. A survey found the average monthly operating cost of THB6,000 for LPG would be slashed to THB1,400 for the electric edition.
