The 2018 edition of the OTOP Lanna Expo fair will open on Friday at the Chiang Mai International Exhibition and Convention Centre (CMECC). The event showcases the diverse range of OTOP products and the creative skills of Northern Thailand’s artisans and local communities.
OTOP means One Tambon, One Product whereby tambon translates as sub-district. Booths in the halls at CMECC will be selling a fascinating array of household tools, clothes, fabrics, toiletries, beauty creams, and savoury and sweet snacks. All have been produced by OTOP co-operatives in the Chiang Mai area and a few other locations in the country.
This year’s expo is being staged in collaboration with the 2018 Chiang Mai World Fair. Foreign consulates in Chiang Mai will be setting up shop at CMECC for this. Booths from more than 20 consulates will have displays and other items detailing education, tourism and archetypical products from their respective countries.
The sixth OTOP Lanna Expo will run from Friday 22 June to Sunday 1 July. Opening hours are 10:00 to 20:00 on weekdays and 10:00 to 21:00 on Saturdays and Sundays. The CMECC centre is located in the northern Chang Phuak District and close to Highway 121, the northern ring-road.
