Effective 2nd March, 2020, Chiang Mai’s Immigration Bureau services are now divided between two different offices. The original Immigration Sanambin Office now only processes applications for extensions to marriage, retirement and other long-stay visas. Certificates of Residence for the purposes of Thai-driving licence applications and the purchase of vehicles are still at present issued at the Sanambin Office too.
The new sub-office at the Promenada Mall handles applications for extensions to visa-exempt permits to stay, visas-on-arrival and 60-day tourist visas. According to the notification issued by Chiang Mai Immigration, this office’s work hours are 09:00 to 17:00 whereas those at the Sanambin Office are 07:30 to 16:30.
Due to the division of services, a public passenger now runs between the Sanambin and Promenada Mall offices. Services in both directions operate hourly during office hours and are free. Our guide to the different visitor visas and long-stay visas for Thailand is linked here.
