The organisers of the Chiang Mai Bo Sang Umbrella Festival have released the event timetables for the 2020 edition. The 37th umbrella fest will kick off this Friday morning, the 17th of January, and run through until the evening of Sunday the 19th.
The schedule follows a similar format on all three days. The only difference is that an opening ceremony on the first evening will feature a motorcade of vehicles festooned with colourful umbrellas and other highlights of the San Kamphaeng handicraft portfolio. An added bonus for the 2020 Bo Sang Festival is that artisans and artistes from Indonesia will be participating and giving demonstrations of the art of puppet making and visual arts performances.
Umbrella factories and shops in Bo Sang will stage demonstrations showing the creation of their renowned products from 09:00 onwards. Between 10:00 and 14:00, parades with participants riding bicycles and wearing traditional Lanna outfits are the mainstay of the entertainment. Market stalls will be set up at around 15:00 and these, together with diverse culture shows, are reason enough to schedule a late afternoon or early evening visit to Bo Sang for the festival.
Bo Sang Umbrella Village is a part of the renowned San Kamphaeng handicrafts district 10kms to the east of downtown Chiang Mai. The Bo Sang Umbrella Festival is one of a number of exciting festivals on Chiang Mai’s annual events calendar. A link with details relating to the main festivals is linked here.
