This Friday will see the inauguration of a series of enthralling light shows at one of Northern Thailand’s most iconic temples. Wat Rong Khun, better known as the White Temple of Chiang Rai, will be the setting for fantastic light shows designed to take audiences on a surrealistic voyage with highlights ranging from the enlightenment of Lord Buddha to a fusion water light show at the Ganesh Chamber.
Wat Rong Khun Light Festival is a collaboration between Chalermchai Kositpipat, a renowned Thai artist and creative force behind the White Temple, and prolific events organiser Index Creative Village. Funds in excess of THB100 million have been pumped into the project and these have allowed for the installation of 100 laser projectors and other state-of-the-art imagery devices.
The first White Temple lighting extravaganza will take place on Friday the 22nd of November. Performances will be twice nightly until Sunday 22nd December with showtimes scheduled for 18:30 and 20:30. Advance tickets are available from ThaiTicketMajor and cost THB400 for standard seating and THB1,000 for VIP seats.
