Chiang Rai’s Mae Fah Luang Airport is in Ban Du District and just slightly under 10kms by road from Chiang Rai’s landmark clocktower. The airport’s IATA code is CEI and it provides the most convenient access point for the abundant attractions of Chiang Rai, Doi Tung, Mae Sai, Chiang Saen and Chiang Khong. Both budget and full service airlines fly from Bangkok’s Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi Airports to Chiang Rai.
The average 1 hour 20 minute flight time is far quicker than the 11-plus hours the same 800km trip takes on the bus. Due to the fact six different airlines fly this route, fares can be as cheap as those for the bus if booked in advance. The passenger terminal at Mae Fah Luang Airport is modern and houses a full range of passenger amenities including food and beverage outlets and souvenir stores.
